BASE Entertainment is set to produce a slate of director Joko Anwar’s movies in collaboration with Ivanhoe Pictures, CJ Entertainment, and Rapi Films. BASE and the other companies will co-develop, co-finance and co-produce the project. There are three movies in the project, all written and directed by Joko Anwar. The three Indonesian-language features are Perempuan Tanah Jahanam (Woman of the Cursed Land) or Impetigore, Ghost in the Cell, and The Vow. All will be written and directed by Joko Anwar.

Mira Lesmana, founder of Miles Films, is an independent film producer notable for her role in reviving Indonesian cinema audiences in the early 2000s. Mira Lesmana was also the initiator of Indonesia’s first independent omnibus film, KULDESAK (1998). Mira and Miles then broke the sluggishness of the Indonesian film industry by releasing the films PETUALANGAN SHERINA (2000) and ADA APA DENGAN CINTA? (2002) which won millions of viewers at a time when cinemas were still dominated by Hollywood films at that time. With her creative passion and love for film, 3 Miles Films productions occupy the top 15 highest-grossing Indonesian films of all time: LASKAR PELANGI (2008), ADA APA DENGAN CINTA 2 (2016), and ADA APA DENGAN CINTA? (2002). While 2 films won the Citra Award for Best FFI Film, namely GIE (2005) and ATHIRAH (2016).

Jason Iskandar, who is already a household name in the short film circuit, collaborates with BASE Entertainment for his first feature film, a romance fantasy set in contemporary Jakarta, Akhirat: A Love Story. Jason Iskandar has won Best Short Film at the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival 2010, and nominated for Best Short Film at 2018 Festival Film Indonesia. With a string of festival prizes for her four films, 36-year old writer-director Kamila Andini has established herself as a key Indonesian filmmaker to look out for. Her repertoire is made up of intimately-carved narratives driven by strong female characters, providing an expression and voice for their inner lives amid harsh sociopolitical circumstances. One of her works, Nana (also known by its English title, Before, Now & Then) had its world premiere at the Berlinale this year, where Indonesian actress Laura Basuki won the Best Supporting Performance prize. The film also picked up the Jury Award at the Brussels International Film Festival. Nana is Andini’s fourth feature and she has previously helmed The Mirror Never Lies (2011), The Seen and Unseen (2017) and Yuni (2021). Last year, Yuni won the Platform Prize at the Toronto International Film Festival. And now, Kamila is helming as one of the directors for the new Indonesia series, Gadis Kretek (it’s English title, Cigarette Girl). Gadis Kretek is based on a novel of the same name by Ratih Kumala. Gadis Kretek is produced by BASE Entertainment, with Shanty Harmayn and Tanya Yuson serving as showrunners. Gadis Kretek is slated to launch in 2023 only on Netflix.

Ifa Isfansyah graduated from the Television Department of Indonesian Institute of Art Jogjakarta. He began his career in cinema as Producer and Director of several short films, including BE QUIET, EXAM IS IN PROGRESS! (Tokyo ShortShort, Competition, 2006) and HALF TEASPOON (Grand Prize Hong Kong Independent Film Video Award & competition, IFFR 2008). In 2001, he started his company Fourcolours Films with other local filmmakers in order to produce and support Indonesian filmmakers. He was selected by the Asian Film Academy BUSAN in 2006 and got a scholarship to attend the Im Kwon Taek College of Film & Performing Arts, KOREA. Then back to Indonesia, he directed his first feature film, GARUDA DI DADAKU (2009), which encountered a great commercial success. His second film, THE DANCER (2011) was awarded Best Director and Best Picture at the Indonesian Film Festival. Since then he has produced SITI (Eddie CAHYONO, TELLURIDE 2015), TURAH (Wicaksono Wisnu LEGOWO, Indonesian Official Entry for OSCAR 2018), THE SEEN AND UNSEEN (Kamila ANDINI, TORONTO IFF 2017) and MEMORIES OF MY BODY (Garin NUGROHO, Venice Orizzonti 2018). ISFANSYAH is also a founder of JOGJA-NETPAC Asian Film Festival that started in 2006 and a founder of the JOGJA FILM ACADEMY, which was established in 2014. Jay Oliva is an American storyboard artist and Director. He resides in Los Angeles, California where he began his career in animation working on Fox’s animated series “Spider-Man” in 1996. An animation industry veteran since 996, jay’s crafted storyboards for Spider-Man, Winnie the Pooh, and everything in between. Je’s directed a dozen animated films for both Marvel and DC as well as the acclaimed Young Justice series, in addition to teaching the “Cinematic Storyboard” class at Loyola Marymount University that ushered in a generation of talent to the industry. In 2012, Jay was recruited by Zack Snyder to storyboard the DC Cinematic Universe beginning with Man of Steel. With decades of experience under his belt, Jay founded Lex and Otis, LLC in 2018 to share his unique passion and vision for the world. His directing efforts are where he is best known for. He has directed a total of 8 animated films as well as was the series director for the hugely popular “Young Justice” (2010) for Warner Brothers Animation. Starting with co-directing “Green Lantern: Emerald Knights” (2011) and then finally solo directing on the two part critically and commercially acclaimed “The Dark Knight Returns part 1 and 2” (2012-2013) he has since directed most of the animated films set in the New 52 animated reboot for WBA. “Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox (2013), Justice League: War (2014), Batman: Assault on Arkham (2014), Batman Vs. Robin (2015), and Batman Bad Blood (2016). It was while he was directing “The Dark Knight Returns Part 1″ that he was contacted by Zack Snyder to storyboard on ‘Man of Steel” (2013 that began his second career in live action films. Since then, Jay has worked on films such as “300: Rise of an Empire (2014), Batman V Superman (2016), Ant-man (2015), Deadpool (2016), Wonder Woman (2017), and “Justice League” (2017).
