BASE Entertainment is set to produce a slate of director Joko Anwar’s movies in collaboration with Ivanhoe Pictures, CJ Entertainment, and Rapi Films. BASE and the other companies will co-develop, co-finance and co-produce the project. There are three movies in the project, all written and directed by Joko Anwar. The three Indonesian-language features are Perempuan Tanah Jahanam (Woman of the Cursed Land) or Impetigore, Ghost in the Cell, and The Vow. All will be written and directed by Joko Anwar.
BASE Entertainment collaborates with Dian Sastrowardoyo. Dian has signed on as a creative producer where she would be involved in three films over the course of three years. Her first movie with BASE is Guru-Guru Gokil (GGG), a comedy written by 2017 Piala Citra awards winner for Best Adapted Screenplay, Rahabi Mandra. Guru-Guru Gokil is set to go into production in 2019.
BASE Entertainment and Jason Iskandar, who is already a household name in the short film circuit, collaborates on Jason’s first feature film, a romance fantasy set in contemporary Jakarta, Akhirat: A Love Story. Jason founded Studio Antelope, who will also co-produced the Akhirat: A Love Story, with fellow producer Florence Giovani. Jason Iskandar has won Best Short Film at the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival 2010, and nominated for Best Short Film at 2018 Festival Film Indonesia. This collaboration marks the commitment of BASE Entertainment to work with up and coming young directors with exciting vision.
